One of John’s many passions was access to quality health care in rural and remote areas.  As a paediatrician when he previously worked in both Alice Springs and Adelaide, he was involved in retrieving sick kids with the RFDS crews. 

Living in Port Augusta he had first-hand experience of how vital the service is to both the town in enabling patients to be transported to metropolitan hospitals when needed, as well as their role in providing quality primary health care, emergency care and retrievals to people in Outback South Australia.

John has been friends and colleagues with the RFDS doctors over many years, particularly since Amanda has worked for them lately.  When he became critically ill, the RFDS provided John with essential and speedy transport to Intensive Care in Adelaide.   The RFDS are “part of the family” and have been a great support to our family during this time of sudden loss and grief.  

The Royal Flying Doctor Service reached more than 330,000 Australians with 24-hour emergency retrieval and primary health care. That’s one person every two minutes.

They need funds to keep doing their life-saving work across remote, rural and regional Australia.
